Social media is the place where brands currently communicate with people. And, it is the place where people communicate each other. Certainly, social media has changed how communication was in the past.

If it was hard before to find someone, the ability to find your friend for a conversation is easy now if you go to any of their social media. You just send a message on Facebook or Instagram or any other platform and you will likely reach them. When I reflect about how social media has changed my life and everyone’s life on this planet, I see how fantastic technology is to overcome distances and save time. The positive aspect of social media is that people don’t need to worry about visiting others, or sending letters by email and waiting days to get answers. Now, you can just find someone in his or her personal social media and send an email and be in touch. You can know what the person is doing by the posts and pictures uploaded and comment on them or give them “likes.”

Social media has helped me to be in touch with family and friends that live in other states or even in other countries. Now, with the pandemic situation that the planet is experiencing, I am thankful that social media exists to be able to see my friends and family at least through pictures and read their status to see how they are feeling.

According to the lecture of the History of Social Media,” the social media of Instagram was launched in 2010, and just two months later, it had 1 million active users. To me, that is very impressive and shows the need people have to share photos about what is happening in their lives. “Currently, it has 1 billion active users, which makes it the sixth most popular social media platform in the world (Jones, 2015).” Instagram has been so successful that Facebook purchased it in cash and stocks for approximately 1 billion dollars.

The definition of Brand has changed with social media. Consumers can reach their personal brand fast and let them know what they expect from them. “A brand is more than a logo or set of colors, and its so much more than a cover photo. A brand is how you make your customers feel, and it’s built by taking a consistent approach across every interaction they have with your brand (Chen, 2020).” For example, it is the voice and the tone you address your customers with. Also, it is essential to pay attention to customers, listen to them, engage and interact with them.
