Sales and Ethics
Having ethics is so important in any job. Just to make a sale, we cannot lie, fail to mention a fact, or exaggerate in relation to a product or service.
There are ethic issues that we can find with certain salespeople. These are: under-informing, overpromising, and buying orders.
Under-informing refers to the failure to convey information that might be indispensable to a customer for fear he or she will not place the order. This has happened to me on more than one occasion. For example, last year I contacted a company to paint my house and supposedly, the price was cheap compared to other companies. They assured me that they would use a good paint. But, the truth is that they did not say that the paint they used it was very low quality and that it contained VOC’s. When I complained, I was only able to get in touch with one of the managers, and he explained that the price varied according to the type of paint, which seems fair to me. But, the salesperson did not explain all the types of paints or tell me all the price options. In the end, my walls had to be repainted. All this because the initial seller did not want to lose me as a customer, but omitted important information.
